Perfect storm of bad management decisions, millenials being uninterested in motorsports and massive changes in advertising delivery.

Also have had a wave of big name retirements without adequately keeping the talent pipeline primed.

american racing sports sort of committed suicide. they got a big boost after 9/11 because of the association with patriotism and general "americana." the industry responded to this surge in popularity with unbridled greed - deciding that it had to "expand" its demographic base by forcememing women and nonwhite drivers and giving as many concessions as possible to GC for quick cash. this alienated its fans without actually attracting any new nontraditional demographic interest.

LJL at Danica or Juan Pablo Montoya being the cause of fan alienation instead of dramatically increased ticket prices, races in nontraditional markets replacing races at historic tracks and the bullshit tinkering to make it more exciting to casual fans (green-white-checker finishes, the chase, the playoffs, etc.)

Guys, all sports barring NBA and a few minor ones are in the shitter.

You're arguing over whether it was price gouging or changes in the product that killed NASCAR, when Netflix, Tivo, and iPads did the deed.

Sports viewership, overall, has dropped in half over the last decade. The effects are different among sports. Some, like the NBA and Premier Football are doing well.

Others, like NASCAR, Indy car, and golf have dropped off a cliff.

But the general trend is down, down, down for all TV sports.

i never really hear about the NBA anymore. it seems to have become a narrower interest, but a deeper one among those who are still into it.
