I also tried eBay and CL but lots of riff raff wanting to come over and try on dress and bargain. I received some interest but the best offer I got was like $1500 (listed it for $2500) and they wanted me to clean it first which costs like $200. I actually only paid about $1800 after all alterations but I then found a charity that helps out military brides and they gave me a receipt for $5000 so I got $2000 off my taxes. The dress retails for $7500.
$1000 no name david’s Bridal dress, maybe the best you can do is like $200. I wouldn’t bother and would just donate it and write in $1000 as the tax write off.

since when does the charity write down the value on the receipt? dont they just give you a receipt with the items listed? isnt it up to you to declare to the irs what you deem the value is? |

Date: February 20th, 2018 7:34 PM Author: Floppy drab center Any donation over $250 requires the charity to provide a written acknowledgment of what was donated and estimated fmv. When you go to goodwill, they give you the blank receipts you can fill it out, but I always keep the amount under $250 per receipt since I don’t have the acknowledgment as backup if I get audited.
Most charities will work with you and put whatever amount under $5000 you want on the receipt but you’re not allowed to fill it out for them. Anything over $5000 requires an appraisal so that why I asked them to put the max $5000 instead. |

Ironically, council for Jewish women give generous valuations. I’ve gotten multiple receipts over $500 from them for complete garbage. |
