but also back to Kwan, in 2002 she won the SP and then with Hughes winning the LP (after being 4th in the SP) Kwan actually only needed to be 2nd in the LP to win gold, but she ended up 3rd behind Hughes and Slutskaya. |

now i'm with you that i tend to prefer a holistic evaluation, but certainly the old system was similar in many ways to a lot of sports. |
