MFH wagecuck here.

Where's a good place to go for a long weekend---leave thursday come back on Monday?

Would rather not spend more than 1500 for everything.

I went there solo in maybe 2010 (?) for St. Pattys and quickly made friends with some drunk Irish people and had a lovely time. I wouldn't go to Dublin that weekend unless you want to drink. I imagine anything you'd want to do sightseeing would be closed or basically impossible to get to.

Haven't flown them longhaul but I know people who have, they said the seats are the same as any other economy. The thing is they follow the LCC model where you pay extra for everything. No meals, no bags, not even a thin crummy blanket. You pay extra for everything you want. Their longhaul fleet are all new 787's.

Reykjavik is very cool. Iceland sometimes gets lumped in with the Nordic/Scandi countries and I would put the women there as the weakest of the five countries. You can do a full day of nature stuff on the golden circle itinerary, see everything in town (it's quite small), go to the blue lagoon, eat puffin and whale and fermented shark then get drunk with the locals (thur/fri/sat is pretty much it for nightlife and people don't go out until like 12/1 because booze is $$$). It's perfect for a long weekend. Flight time from NYC is about the same as going to California.

I had a blast on a long weekend trip to Palm Springs/Indian Wells for the BNP Paribas finals last March, but I'm a tennismo so that's not for everyone. Wasn't single either but there seemed to be plenty of good spots for that and you'd have the mathematical advantage of being one of the few straight, single dudes in Palm Springs. 180 place to travel if you're outdoorsy/into hiking as well.

you sure? flyertalk's cuba wiki says the 12 self-id category thing is gone per trump

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cuba/1512229-americans-cuba-travel-facts-resources-related-experiences-only.html

WARNING: Trump speech in Miami today, June 16, 2017, announced (using the words "effective immediately") reinstatement of the tourist travel ban to Cuba. "Trump will re-impose the requirement that "people-to-people" travelers can only come to Cuba with heavily regulated tour groups. " for USA citizens and residents, that bans individual "self certified" travel to Cuba under the current OFAC 12 categories described below. That means (expensive) group travel for most, currently offered by travel and cruise companies (those will be allowed to continue).

US airlines will be allowed to continue to serve Cuba, but the new restrictions will mean most planning to travel individually will not be able to usevthese carriers (unless on authorized or licensed group travel).

Flights can be shockingly expensive for a real short flight. If you don't want to take a 10 hour amtrak, check for AA award availability using BA Avios. It'll probably still be pretty chilly in March but Montreal is 18000, the Canadians will still be playing are the girls are hot.
