Typed one (1) order in a year of working, that was the only time I actually used Microsoft word for the year.

My judge made s lot of money in the 79’s and 89’s practicing law and was in the state assembly for a while. His family owned land in that county since it was British. He lived on a 20 acre spread where there was like a 1/8th of a mile driveway lined with dogwoods. His family owned a majority stake in a successful regional bank. He lived in a town of about 1500 where he knew everyone.

You cannot get more DGAF than him

My judge was the most senior trial judge in S.C., notorious for never taking anything under advisement and always ruling from the bench. He was on the bench for 20+ years prior to my being with him. He never once had me research anything. Mostly my jobs were to drive him around, play golf with him whenever he wanted to - which was like 5 times s week- and drink liquor. It was like heaven

I didn't go to SCAR, which was a hard decision. My TTT law school gave me a ton of money - not quite everything but close to it. Thus, I figured that with almost no loans and the connections from my undergrad that I would be in good shape.

I was right in some ways, not right in others. I underestimated how SCAR grads dominate this area, although CSOL is chipping away at that.

EDIT: not a day went by where the Judge didn't rip on my living up North.

Career district clerk here. Look at the "weighted filings per judgeship."

http://www.uscourts.gov/judges-judgeships/judicial-vacancies/judicial-emergencies

E.g. WD La has 270, while just across the border in ED Texas there are almost 4 times as many. Huge difference in the workload for those 2 clerkships.
