The culture of honor and sacrifice is strong in Asians. You can see this play out in wars. Japanese and Chinese in WWII, the Chinese in the Korean War, the Vietcongs in the Vietnam War.
I know someone whose grandfather fought in the Korean War. He said the Chinese soldiers fought with no regard for life/death. That's the main reason why there was a stalemate despite the US' overwhelming firepower.
