However, that research also shows that one-third of solo officers making entry end up getting shot. That means that if you're a cop assigned to a school, you need to be well-trained in how to handle an active shooter situation. Solo officer entry is nonnegotiable. Cops at schools absolutely need to have immediate access to a rifle and must be mentally prepared to enter a scene that's still hot.
