Been signing up over 30 a month and that's AFTER I've given 60-70 cases away to Kenny and Chandler since December. I'm still waiting on my fees from the million dollar settlement I recently had (I'm owed a few hundred in fees right now on settled cases). So that isn't included. I also have an eight figure case in the pipeline.
We are currently have slightly over 300 active files, 90% are car accidents. I think I have 6 or 7 active files that were referred to me through XO too and I'm working on 4 files with other lawyers from XO as co-counsel.
Business has still been growing a lot. I've been pretty stressed out to be honest. This year I went legit with paying my staff on payroll. So everything now is being payrolled properly and I have two full-time paralegals. My filing fee costs show as almost zero, but that's because my process service company now advances the filing fees and then charges my credit card. So all my filing fees show up under outside services (under their bill).

Greater LA is half that population (18 million) meaning 200 a day if we assume similar rates of collisions. Even if we assume that every single person "injured" in an accident obtains a lawyer and obtains damages of at least $100K that would mean based on the numbers you're reporting (20 settlements a month or 240 per year with an average fee of 30K ) you have 0.3% of the greater LA market. |

The biggest one is how good of a business person you are and/or how good your social skills are. The 100k PI lawyer probably has very little business acumen and not great social skills. Literally to make 100K in PI you need like 20-30 reasonable cases and low overhead. If my goal was 100K/yr I could do that working 5-10 hours a month. I could literally do meth all day and probably clear 200k/year.
If you are a good business person and have some decent starting capital you can build a good marketing plan and your business can come in through paid marketing/advertising. Or, if you have great personal skills you can bring in business through networking. I am the latter.
The other factors are how good are you at getting cases to full value. I have 300+ cases but I net WAY more than my suite mate who has 500+ cases. I get a lot more money per case than he does. I micromanage everything and I am extremely good at convincing clients to treat and get injections. Most PI attorneys don't monitor their cases and mostly have clients just do chiro. My average case settles for tens of thousands where my suite mate's average case settles for like 5-8k.

So that means between me and my buddy we repped 1 in 278 people. But also, we do slip and falls, dog bites, and other premises cases too. So 100% of my cases are not auto accidents.
I'm not sure if you are getting at that you don't believe me or not, but what I'm saying has been confirmed by dozens of posters, may whom have met me in RL and seen my caseload (either at my home or on my phone through dropbox). |

"My filing fee costs show as almost zero, but that's because my process service company now advances the filing fees and then charges my credit card. So all my filing fees show up under outside services (under their bill)."
As of 2018, my process service/filing company doesn't want a check for filing fees. They pay it themselves and just add it to my invoice every month. That is why my outside services line item is so high. Because all my filing fees go there now as part of their invoice. |
