Did two days about 5-6 years ago. First day Angkor Thom/Angkor Wat, and maybe some other temples in that area?

Second day Banteay Srei and the landmine museum (which is on the road back from there). Watched sunset from hill temple.

After a while, there is definitely some fatigue from seeing similar stuff over and over, so I would not plan on staying more than 3 days.

Looking at photos, looks like we did sunset on the hill first night. After land mine museum we went to Banteay Samre (smart move by wife to take photos of temple names in guide book!) And looks some other temples as well but don't have names.

Yup, sounds about right. We had the lonely planet book, but really didn't due much planning. Had a tuk tuk driver (don't recall that many cars driving among the temples, but obv things could have changed).

One thing we accidentally did which was cool was to go Angkor Wat in the middle of the day. No tour groups, so we pretty much had the place to ourselves (relatively speaking) even if was ridiculously hot.

I actually didn’t hit the beach in Cambodia but from what I hear it’s a good value to ball out at new upscale resorts these days. Tons of development in the past three years and lower price point than Thailand.

I like PP. It’s not an authentic shithole any more but super cheap, interesting history and complete disregard for rules and laws if you bring some USD. Still pretty easy to get drugged up, shoot a rocket launcher and fuck a 12-year-old for <$100 total.

Car. It was hot as fuck outside, like 95 degrees, and I did it during what happened to be a huge festival weekend in town, so everything was crazy crowded. The lulzy part was that the guide complained about the mainland Chinese and Koreans the whole time. He shit on the mainland Chinese as obnoxious animals and the Koreans as spoiled assholes.

imo, 3 days is perfect. spend two days visiting the temples in and around AW. you'll probably get temple OD'd by the end of 2 days, but seeing all the highlights in 1 day is probably too rushed.

spend a third day taking a day trip somewhere. i went to a rural fishing village with stilts a few years ago that was totally untouristed. these hidden gems tend to get popular and ruined, but there's always a new hidden gem popping up that you can find if you do your research.

on this day trip, we also stopped at a temple which is totally off the beaten path from the normal group of temples because it's very far away from the rest of them. i think it's this but would have to double check -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beng_Mealea . there was literally nobody there. the ranger showed me around for free (gave him a tip; he wasnt even working for a tip and just seemed bored and happy to move around).

SR is a shitty town and is totally overrated. it's just one of many shitty backpacker towns in SE asia that white people have totally ruined. i dont get the appeal and i dont see why anyone thinks it's fun.

this was like 8 years ago. there was a 'main one' that was a huge tourist trap, and i went to Kompong Khleang. didnt see a single other tourist there. now it looks like it has 118 reviews on tripadvisor, so i dont know if this is the current tourist trap or what...

the village? hired a boat to see the floating market, walked around, saw natives doing their thing -- drying shrimp in the sun, feeding crocodiles, etc. just seeing daily life.

little kids had never seen a camera before and wanted me to take their picture, or see the screen on my camera. GC probably has ruined this type of thing. every third world shithole denizen probably has a $50 garbage chink-made smartphone nowadays

I did 3 days, was sick of temples by the end. Sunrise at Angkor Wat was cool. I saw for the first time there how terrible Chinese tourist hordes can be. They really are as bad as they say

they're worse than they say, actually. you cant describe in words the ching chong'ing, the 10-ft projectile spitting, etc

What pissed me off (and the Cambodian guides were not afraid of yelling in rage at them for it) was climbing up 2000 year old ruins or whatever behind “do not climb” ropes so they could get a good picture taken of themselves. Pushed old women out of their way for a picture, shit like that

PROTIP: get a car for the day. it's like $100. the air conditioning and cold water are very much worth it.
