I also autistically look up prices on Redfin and Zillow all day every day.
To make things worse, I already have the remote job. The only thing keeping me here is the family that is geographically close but that I never see because I have no time because I have several "side-hustles" that help me afford to live here.
Very chill situation. I've really maed it.

We thought about it for a long time, but decided to stay here and bought a small condo. It kinda works for us now, but might have been a mistake to stop renting.
If I can't afford a house in five years, I'm moving somewhere else permanently and family will just have to deal with it. This is the most likely scenario. I'll bump a bunch of sick/old/dead/alzheimers dad threads when I move.
What's your plan?

im stuck here til may 2019 since wife is finishing up a grad program. after that i've told her i'd like to get out of CA and at least try out living in a city with a lower col.
i have no solid plan yet though so we'll see what unfolds - back to redfin.

I have the whole small city/disproportional income thing and it's mostly great. I don't work remotely though . . . small successful firm wanted to bring in a ringer to fuck up biglaw firms when they step into our territory. Big house 5 minutes from work, no traffic . . . literally feel my blood pressure instantly rising now when I go to a real city and have congestion delay me in any way at all.
Only shitty thing is that online dating SUCKS here and I don't like doing things IRL.
