Why C++? It is old and a victim of complexity. If you're gonna do this then just learn C or one of its derivatives like C#, Swift, Java

Better yet, actually learn computer science rather than just the syntax of a particular language.

Obviously you need to be good at CS. but learning a language isn’t just syntax, especially C++. You need to learn the template library, common design patterns and the associated frameworks like boost, also all the the idiosyncrasies.

C++ is used widely for low-latency programming. If you can do that you make bank. Problem is that that kind of programming takes real expertise.

It’s not going anywhere as a language though. Nothing OBject oriented is faster

It's obsolete for most purposes. Unless you need very fast code, it's better to use C# or Java, which can be developed in 10x faster.

Very hard. You need an MS to be quant dev, and a PhD to be a quant. You're also pigeon-holed in finance, which has some of the worst working conditions in software.

Schools use Java because the tools are free.

C# is superior to Java at this point. .NET Core also frees you from Windows.
