5 sets at RPE 9 is going to fuck you on any lift. Especially if the first is 22 reps and causes a ton of fatigue.

yeah, but the drop is huge between sets 1 and 2

as a counter-example; i can usually rep more DLs my second set; my op is more or less consistent across sets; and my bench falls 1 or 2 reps
