Sixteen editors shall be selected through a holistic but anonymous review that takes into account all available information. The Review remains strongly committed to a diverse and inclusive membership.

Applicants who wish to make aspects of their identity available through the Law Review's holistic consideration process will have the opportunity to indicate their racial or ethnic identity, physical disability status, gender identity, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. Applicants also have the option of submitting an expository statement of no more than 150 words that identifies and describes aspects of their background not fully captured by the categories provided on the form. Statements will be considered by the Selection Committee only after grading of the Subcite and Case Comment sections of the competition has been completed. Richard Sander’s study of affirmative action at U.S. law schools highlights a real and

serious problem: the average black law student’s grades are jaw-droppingly low. 1 With

the exception of traditionally black law schools (where blacks still make up 43.8% of the

student body), the median black law school grade point average is at the 6.7 percentile of

white law students.

This means that only 6.7% of whites have lower grades than 50% of

blacks. One finds similar result if look at the other end of the distribution – only 7.5% of

blacks have grades that are higher than the white median.
