Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Tuesday defended Robert Mueller after President Trump blasted the special counsel's investigation over the weekend as biased.
McConnell tried to put to rest speculation that Trump may persuade senior Justice Department officials to fire Mueller, who is investigating possible collusion between Trump’s inner circle and Russian government officials during the 2016 election.
McConnell called Mueller a “thoroughly credible individual” and “an appropriate appointment” to serve as special counsel.
“We all anticipate him finishing the job and telling the American people what they need to know about this episode,” he said.
Trump, however, ratcheted up political pressure on the investigation after criticizing Mueller over the weekend for hiring investigators with Democratic connections.
“Why does the Mueller team have 13 hardened Democrats, some big Crooked Hillary supporters, and Zero Republicans?” Trump tweeted. “Another Dem recently added … does anyone think this is fair? And yet, there is NO COLLUSION!”
McConnell responded Tuesday by calling Mueller an "excellent appointment." |

But there are extrinsic clues based on what others have said they were asked when interviewed. So we know that Mueller is probing Trump's financial dealings with Russian banks and oligarchs and FSB/Kremlin-connected criminals. They include:
- Vnesheconombank, which has done business with Trump and Kushner and has a CEO who gave Flynn and Kushner a literal bag of dirt during a Dec 2016 meeting in which those traitors asked the Russian ambassador to provide them with a SCIF to use for future communications
- the Russian lawyer and spies who were invited to Trump Tower to meet with his campaign's entire high command and speak about Russian sanctions
- Dmitry Rybolovlev, a fertilizer magnate who bought a $45m property that Trump bought at the height of the housing bubble for $96m during the recession, and who FAA records show coincidentally landed his private jet at small airports where Trump's was during the campaign at various times.
- Trump's Oval Office meeting with Russian diplomats and ITAR-Tass, which horrified so many attendees that it was immediately leaked to the media
And much more. I think Mueller will find that the Russians bought this traitor and he has bent over to do their bidding on sanctions
