Aiight brother. What kind of income?

If you ever had a desire to live in NYC, you'd be better of doing it in your 20s. Once 30s and family responsibilities hit, you'll be priced out of NYC (at least the places worth living in).

Whoa..that's nice. If you're single...I'd do NYC for a few years. It's not for everyone though. San Diego always seemed boring to me -- especially for a 20 something single dude. I've only visited SD. So I'm sure locals will disagree.

Any difference in hours worked? I know quant software engineers in NYC tend to have pretty reliable and humane hours. If equal, and if you really have upside to earn $400k working 40ish hours a week within 2-5 years, then I would say NYC is not a bad option. But SD is hard to beat in terms of weather, women, and lifestyle. A million dollar home in SD is still >>>>> one in the NYC area.

If SD is 9-5, take SD. Learn to surf, enjoy the sunshine and quality craft beer.

If SD is terrible work/life balance NY. SD on mid 6 figures is a good life.
