Most important "conservative" idea is that societies do not PROGRESS

This idea, that we are progressing, is so ubiquitous and dogmatic that it's almost hard to step outside of it. I think even the most ardent conservatives sometimes fail to eschew it.
But once it is accepted as a given, shitlibbery is built to win every argument. Once exposed and examined, however, it crumbles immediately. Why on earth would it be true that human society is progressing? Without pulling a switcheroo and talking about technology, how could anyone make any case that any society is better because it came later?
Conservatives need to talk about this non-stop. |

If you want to limit your consideration to the USA (and somehow overlook how the american economy still relies on these global slaves), than you would have to ask if a post-slavery society is better and happier for all than the society that existed before the civil war. Though that rests on postmodern principles most cons would not believe are true. Most cons think progressive "progress" is a net bad, ie not progress, which means they believe comparisons are possible. |
