GF wants to take a "weekend getaway" trip that will cost me $1500. Excessive?

That's not even counting eating out, etc. Just for a weekend. Its for her birthday FWIW, just her and I, she would be paying for her flight and half the hotel too.
Also, FWIW, I've literally never once bought a flight to go on a weekend trip that wasn't a bachelor party or a family get together.

Do you do loyalty w/ any particular chain, if it was me I'd probably just steer her to whatever is the nicest Marriott/Hilton/whatever and say you're limited the scope to that since you get the points, etc. When I travel to non-urban areas I stay at plenty of Marriott sub brands which are suitable w/o being too pricey. |

I also bought oil and fluids for the POS Jeep I bought for her to drive ($1500 for the Jeep the same amount as your flame “weekend getaway,”) but she is going to change it. Of course I still have to do some welding on it. Not letting her touch my welder.

This is in my experience the attitude of 98% of women I know, and I don't even hold it against them because it seems something inherent to the mindset of even otherwise completely wonderful, educated and marriageable women, and primarily the man's fault if he acquiesces.
In my case, finance proposed spontaneous four day trip to Europe, on the basis we could use some airlines miles and thus it would be "free." What she meant by that is it was free to her and she failed to acknowledge, much less calculate, the additional expenses incurred on lodging, food and whatever activities she thought we were going to do while there. |
