In my case, finance proposed spontaneous four day trip to Europe, on the basis we could use some airlines miles and thus it would be "free." What she meant by that is it was free to her and she failed to acknowledge, much less calculate, the additional expenses incurred on lodging, food and whatever activities she thought we were going to do while there.
