as the Mexican government fled Mexico City, the POTUS of Mexico ordered all of the prisons opened. He hoped the convicts would fight the US Army.
They did. Escaped prison convicts began shooting at US forces entering the city. One shot killed a Lieutenant. To replace the dead Lieutenant, the army promoted a hitherto-obscure junior officer, his his first major promotion. His name was Ulysses S. Grant. |
