In this society there is a simple truth that to advance and have a shot to maek it you must be a credential holder, a union member, a capital holder or a hustler.
I think around the early 2000's it began to shift in the credentialism direction, but that was basically just because HR departments across the country are now autonomous vehicles inside corporations and they are not connected with what it actually takes to complete tasks. Modern HR is disgusting and inefficient.
Credentials have also become laughably talismanic and debased outside of STEM fields. The Education Bubble is begining to show cracks however with school closures and what not.
A lot of people I know are going into massive debt for shit they wont ever use, or degrees from institutions that have sprung up in the past five or ten years. I think these newer places are all giant scams because they are granting advanced degrees is really weird shit like "Transpersonal Psychotherapy" or whatever.
