I got my hair cut yesterday by a hawt 22 year old and here is a sampling of the things she told me: she was excited I was from Texas because she really wanted to visit Nashville and wanted to know what it is like, she was curious how Austin was affected by hurricanes, she was freaked out by all the gators in the state, and she wondered if a show we were talking about on HBO won a Grammy for best tv show. She also mentioned she was reading The Secret and couldn’t recommend it highly enough as it is changing her life.
Studies show that the average IQ of a hairstylist is around 96. Was this person unusually stupid/ignorant or are these comments typical of a person with an average IQ? I was thinking about it and this was the most in-depth discussion I have had with a non-college educated person in years. Educated people vastly overrate the intelligence and knowledge of the average person.
This experience made me think about how totally insane many of our institutions are. I can’t believe we are stuck with this primitive mob-rule democracy. I can’t believe NO country has come up with a better-functioning alternative that still respects human freedom. Why isn’t there a country where legislators/rulers are selected in some unusual way to ensure high-IQ leadership with desirable psychological traits?

had to look up what The Secret is. The Wikipedia article on its author was written by a semi-literate:

we had such a system before based on land ownership which was a reasonable proxy for IQ before industrialization /urbanization
we need a system in the middle - modern democracy is at one end of the spectrum where idiots run the show and totalitarian systems like nazism, communism, military dictatorship, absolute monarchy at the other end of the spectrum are worse
what we need is democracy but with severely restricted voting rights based on intelligence, economic productivity, national service
i have been saying the same, see the thread below

i actually also think we shouldn't let government employees vote.
if your livelihood is provided by the gov't, whether through employment or public assistance, you don't get to vote.
i think that is a reasonable tradeoff.

Voting booths should have 2 IQ questions before you cast your vote - if you get either question right, your vote is counted, otherwise it is discarded.
The questions will be at a level that a 100iq person could resonably expect to solve.
The booths won't tell you if you passed the test tho, to avoid chimp-outs.

As shrewy and grating as Hillar is, I doubt she would say:
"Look, having nuclear—my uncle was a great professor and scientist and engineer, Dr. John Trump at MIT; good genes, very good genes, OK, very smart, the Wharton School of Finance, very good, very smart—you know, if you’re a conservative Republican, if I were a liberal, if, like, OK, if I ran as a liberal Democrat, they would say I'm one of the smartest people anywhere in the world—it’s true!—but when you're a conservative Republican they try—oh, do they do a number—that’s why I always start off: Went to Wharton, was a good student, went there, went there, did this, built a fortune—you know I have to give my like credentials all the time, because we’re a little disadvantaged—but you look at the nuclear deal, the thing that really bothers me—it would have been so easy, and it’s not as important as these lives are (nuclear is powerful; my uncle explained that to me many, many years ago, the power and that was 35 years ago; he would explain the power of what's going to happen and he was right—who would have thought?), but when you look at what's going on with the four prisoners—now it used to be three, now it’s four—but when it was three and even now, I would have said it's all in the messenger; fellas, and it is fellas because, you know, they don't, they haven’t figured that the women are smarter right now than the men, so, you know, it’s gonna take them about another 150 years—but the Persians are great negotiators, the Iranians are great negotiators, so, and they, they just killed, they just killed us."

>> Any system ruled by political parties will always move to the left. Their business model is based on getting low status people to work for them. Obviously they must give them something in exchange. And they must motivate voters to vote for them. Their promise is simple: You, low status people, help us out, vote for us, obey our commands, and we will give you high status. Don’t vote for us, disobey us, let the right win, and you will remain low status. <<

the great mass of people with "MY MASTER'S" degrees are also more likely to be women (single women, lesbian women, ethnic women, at that), in which case, their voting for Democrats is a function of things other than some uber-sagacity attained by getting an MA in Sociology/Education. it's a vote born out of simple self-interest, not enlightenment.
see also: 'highly educated'/intelligent lawyers, who all vote Dem to protect their livelihood, not because they applied socratic reasoning.
while highly-educated surgeons tend to be Republicans.
you can see how this line is easy to attack from a lot of angles. a lot to unpack.
