The corroborating underlying structures that distinguish our hypothesis that a person with "5/10 neuroticism" differs from a person with "6/10 neuroticism" would be either brain and behavioral events or mental states. Neither are objective - you can't judge the true extent of a negative affect by behaviour and self reports alone, and you cannot observe mental states. With such in principle low specificity and sensitivity around your concepts, you cannot call your field a science.
