i think people are confused about 'cardio.'

you don't have to achieve a steady-state LOCKED IN lockstep heartrate of 150 BPM/30 minutes for something to be heart-healthy.

if you are running around playing basketball for an hour, your mean heartrate is well within 'cardio' range to benefit you.

*sigh*

Do we need to do this again?

"In almost all conditions, anaerobic exercise is accompanied by aerobic exercises because the less efficient anaerobic metabolism must supplement the aerobic system due to energy demands that exceed the aerobic system's capacity. What is generally called aerobic exercise might be better termed "solely aerobic", because it is designed to be low-intensity enough not to generate lactate via pyruvate fermentation, so that all carbohydrate is aerobically turned into energy."

Because it’s not cardio; the average NBA player playing a full game runs 2.5 miles; the biglawyer going for a 3 mile jog does more distance in less time

A dude playing a couple of pick up games a week is doing what, a mile each time? And most pick up games are half court

Basketball is physical activity but not cardio

The only athletes that do very little supplemental cardio are soccer players cause they run way the hell more than any other sport

I agree that efficacy of any activity depends on intensity and effort. If you’re saying an hour of intense pickup that both teams want to win badly (ie everyone is sprinting back, fighting through screens, boxing out, ect) then I’m going to worry about you making me dumber via osmosis

Why are the training habits of pro athletes remotely relevant to this discussion?

your main issue is that you have this weirdly specific broscience definition of what constitutes "cardio" that is completely meaningless. Interval training and long steady state activity both lead to adaptations of your cardiovascular system, but in different ways.
