it's not as simple as "regional differences." the entire continent had arbitrary european colonial borders (from like 6 or 7 different empires) imposed over pre-existing tribal political boundaries/regions. these new "states" then gained independence at different times and in different ways (sometimes violent), and many were still exploited afterwards by glocap depending on whatever natural resources happened to be around (diamonds, chocolate, oil...)
i mean it really is no wonder the place is so fucked up. |

on the other end of the spectrum, belgium ran congo as a purely for profit corporation with no regard at all for the state of play on the ground or the people.

Wonderful idea, but it has led to the complete destruction of Africa. Bewildering how the worst aspects of Christianity survived as progressivism while the best aspects were abandoned.
A non-Christian empire, like China, will have to come in and ruthlessly colonize Africa again if it is not to drag down the entire planet with its 5 billion people. |
