I NEED MY STORE MANAGER TO LIVE UP TO HIS JOB TITLE. I NEED TO KNOW IF THERE IS SOMETHING I NEED TO TAKE CARE OF. DON'T LET ME BE THE ASSHOLE WHO HAS NO CLUE WHATS GOING ON.

I'MA ALSO NEED HIM TO ACTUALLY PERFORM THE TASKS HE IS SUPPOSED TO DO. I NEED HIM TO ACTUALLY ADJUST FOOD PARS. I NEED HIM TO MAKE SCHEDULES SO I CAN MARK UP DCRS. ON THAT NOTE, I NEED HIM TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE TRANSACTION FORECAST SO MAYBE HE MIGHT HAVE KNOWN WE NEEDED MORE THAN TWO PEOPLE AT CLOSING. I NEED HIM TO READ THE UPDATES. I NEED HIM TO STAY ON TOP OF SHIT INSTEAD OF LETTING IT BURY ME AND MY SHIFTS.

I ALSO NEED MY STORE MANAGER TO LISTEN TO ME. I NEED HIM TO SUPPORT ME. I NEED HIM TO UNDERSTAND WHAT GOES ON IN HIS STORE. I AM ONLY A SHIFT. I DO NOT RUN THIS STORE. I NEED HIM TO UNDERSTAND WE DO SERVE CUSTOMERS (AND A LOT OF THEM) AFTER 10 AM. THERE IS AN ENTIRE DAY'S WORTH OF BUSINESS AFTER PEAK THAT HE SEEMS TO NOT BE INTERESTED IN. IM KINDA PISSED THAT IM THE ONLY ONE AVAILABLE FOR MIDS ALL OF A SUDDEN BUT I'M NOT THE ONLY SHIFT WITH OPEN AVAILABILITY. IM PRETTY PISSED THAT FOR ALL THE WORK I PUT IN TO THIS STORE, I SEEM TO BE WORKING THE SHIFTS HE DOESN'T WANT.

I'M SICK AND TIRED OF THE DOUBLE STANDARDS BETWEEN OPENING SHIFT AND CLOSING SHIFT. I GET THREATENED WITH BEING WRITTEN UP IF I FORGET TO DO THE MILK COUNT OR DATE PASTRIES, YET THE MORNING CREW DOES IT ALL THE TIME AND NOTHING HAPPENS. I'M THE FIRST PERSON SINCE SUNDAY (IT'S WEDNESDAY) TO DO A COUNT (EVEN AFTER THE STORE MANAGER HERSELF CLOSED LAST NIGHT AND BITCHED THE WHOLE TIME), THE MORNING SHIFT SUPERVISOR WHO IS THE STORE MANAGER'S PET DIDN'T DATE HER PASTRIES (SO I TECHNICALLY WAS SUPPOSED TO THROW THEM AWAY, BUT I DATED THEM FOR HER TO BE NICE AND MINIMIZE WASTE), AND SHE DOESN'T MARK OFF BOXES CORRECTLY (OR AT ALL) SO MY COUNTS ARE WRONG ALL. THE. TIME. NO ONE SAYS SHIT. BUT MYSELF AND THE OTHER CLOSING SHIFT SUPERVISOR HAVE BEEN THREATENED WITH WRITE UPS AND YELLED AT FOR THE SAME THING. I JUST NEED ONE PERSON TO PISS ME OFF TO MY FACE THIS WEEK AND I'M WALKING OUT AND NOT COMING BACK.

ACTUALLY, I JUST REALIZED I FORGOT TO THROW OUT THE OLD PANINIS AND IF I HEAR ONE WORD ABOUT IT TOMORROW, (COMPARED TO ALL THE SHIT THEY FORGET OR IGNORE ALL THE TIME WITHOUT REPRIMAND, IT'S A RIDICULOUSLY MINOR MISTAKE) THAT'S IT. I'LL WALK OUT. HOLD ME TO IT, R/STARBUCKS!

I’ve been a supervisor for a year and have had to call my city’s non emergency line and also 911 because I felt myself and my partners were in ACTUAL danger. Why were we in danger may you ask? I let a homeless man use the bathroom at 5am because I was feeling human for a second and he spent 20 minutes in there getting high. When I finally got him out of the bathroom and ran around my store rambling trying to convince me he wasn’t high. He finally gets out of the store and proceeds to go wander around the parking lots. It’s a dead early monday morning so no one was out there, whatevs. His high goes from bumbling around to aggressive in a split second. He starts throwing patio furniture and banging on the windows. He bursts inside screaming at us accusing us of stealing his backpack. Goes back outside and starts trying to light things on fire. No one was hurt fortunately, but it gets me salty when I see people commenting on social media that denying someone access to the bathrooms because they haven’t made a purchase is “heartless and inhumane”. I will never get paid enough to clean shit off the walls in the bathroom after some kind customer bought a homeless man a coffee so now he gets to use the bathroom.

I realize this is a generalization of the homeless but 95% of the time, the outcome is always negative.

Baristas deal with a lot. Of course all the normal stuff that we bitch about everyday but unless you’ve been verbally assaulted, had stuff thrown at you, had to call hazmat because some junkie got blood all over your bathroom walls...don’t judge us for having to make tough decisions. Calling 911 is not a decision to be taken lightly and it shouldnt have to happen.

Come and hang out! Sit in my lobby, drink our water, suck up all the wifi...seriously I don’t care. I have plenty of “regulars” who don’t actually purchase anything but are nice and mind their own business.

I have no idea what that right answer is. Maybe there isn’t one. But I do know that making baristas feel like shit on top of having to do their jobs isn’t it.
