It's also pretty beta if their dad isn't allowed to renovate or upgrade anything in the house without permission and if some landlord can just pop in to their house to check on it any time.
Also, like someone said, it's a hobby and provides an intangible joy. I feel a sense of pride when I finish a project or improve something. I feel a sense of pride knowing I own this little piece of land (yes, I know libertarians will flap their arms and scream about taxes).
The fact that it's a forced savings is nice, too. My total mortgage + taxes + insurance is a little cheaper than what it would cost me to rent a similar house but every month a big chunk goes into equity and most of the rest is tax deductible. If I were renting it would all just be wasted.
The fact that my property value has improved by like 25% is icing on the cake. |
