Why do libs treat symbolic/political "awards" as indicators of actual merit?

If the end goal is more black people in tech, instead of asking "well what can we do to get more black people interested in and capable at technology jobs" libs jump right to "just give them the technology jobs - problem solved."
this is probably because libs are obsessed with markers and signals of success, which is contrary to the usual view of the psychology underpinning the lib-conservative dichotomy. many libs are would-be strivers who got frustrated or discouraged early in life. they gave up on the effort but still secretly yearn for the end result (everyone look at me, admire me, give me things). they're bitter about a world that didn't grant them easy access to what they want, and so they view the world as purposely unfair and in need of fixing, so that people like them (exactly like them, you might say) get what they deserve. |
