no, it's not "dead"
patent law has been around for 200 years and isnt going anywhere.
can you no longer get a job at quinn working 3000 hours? probably. who cares.

patent lit doesn't REQUIRE a stem degree, but it's highly preferred for a variety of reasons: clients want the lawyers on their matters to have the degree, partners with stem degrees want the associates to have the degree, stem guys are more likely to "get" the technology and the issues.
also, some parts of patent lit -- coming up with the (non)infringement and (in)validity arguments, claim construction, expert reports -- can be highly technical and require a stem aspie to get the issues right.
of course, there are non-stem guys who have success in patent lit. they have to be smart and interested in science/tech, though.

anyone with any stem UG degree is smart enough to do any kind of patent lit.
nobody actually "uses their degree"; that part is mostly flame. the idea that you need a phd in that exact discipline to do a specific type of patent lit cases is lulzy.
that being said, clients and/or partners often want specific degrees for resume and marketing purposes. it's not necessary for the work, though.
the same stem degrees will always be good to have for patent lit -- EE/CS, mechE, chemE, bio/chem/bme.
the worst are the degrees that are ones you'd think -- IE, OR, etc

lol at this douchey statement: "Morgan was co-managing partner of the firm for a maximum two terms from 1997 to 2003 and has been a member of its Executive Committee since 1985. He is presently chair of the Litigation group."

who fucking cares what the maximum term is? im sure he could have changed the rules. does anyone care why he didnt serve more than 6 years as co-MP, whether it was bc he was termed out or not?
