i'd say about 50% of my time at my work desk is spent poasting/browsing the internet, and i still easily get all my work done. does anyone here work at a white-collar desk job that's actually "difficult" that requires you to legitimately "work" all day?

i'm not sure i've ever even met someone who "works" 8 hours+ a day at a white collar job. pretty much everyone i've met who works a desk job spends half their time fucking around on the internet. are there any exceptions?

It’s not that hard to play really. It pushes the boundaries of tonality. Thanks for listening, I always want to know what Normies think of more avant- grade music.

Guitarist here. That is utter shit. But it's impressive that someone could compose such ambitious music that avoids sounding like someone just mashing their hands on a keyboard. Like, I can tell the technique is good, and clearly tons of thought went into the composition, but JFC the song is actually painful to listen to. I could not imagine wanting to leave that as your legacy.

It’s a beautiful piece if you can appreciate what’s going on. It’s deeply passionate neo-romanticism, just relying heavily on chromaticism to obscure the tonal center (b minor)

And Berg is regarded as one of the geniuses of the second Viennese school. Glenn Gould championed him etc. don’t think he has to worry about his legacy.

Tbh this is part of the problem with modernist classical. You kind of need to be induced into appreciation. It’s refreshing if you spend all day playing romantic and classical.

I found it very enjoyable for the first few minutes or so but it fell apart for me after that. long stretches of it actually sound completely natural and musical to me but the majority doesn't at all.

I have a lot of experience with jazz chromaticism and stuff but not this kind of shit.

No, I have never worked a consistent eight hour day. I spend a lot of time reading online. The average person is only working about three hours a day.

Reading news websites--1 hour, 5 minutes

Checking social media--44 minutes

Discussing non-work-related things with co-workers--

40 minutes

Searching for new jobs--26 minutes

Taking smoke breaks--23 minutes

Making calls to partners or friends--18 minutes

Making hot drinks--17 minutes

Texting or instant messaging--14 minutes

the thing is he doesnt even need to take such drastic measures to finish something, but he makes it sound like he's going above and beyond - then never executes. cant call him out because he's senior, and the work flows down the pipeline

this is one of the biggest unmentioend benefits of in house over biglaw. biglaw you can zone out or do non billable work shit but you are still responsible for billing time or making shit up. like if you go for a meeting or read an article or something, you gotta make up those billables. for in house, thats just your job

It's really quite shocking how little most surgeons (not specialists like orthopedic surgeons) make. Even then the "high paying" surgeons only make like 500K.
