It probably sucks if you work at S&C but it is a great job for the majority of Biglaw corporate people.
Pros-
-Hours aren't bad. 10-6:30 or 7 with 5-10 weeks absolutely fucked each year. Leave at 4-5 most Fridays. The hours vary and are not entirely predictable but aren't terrible.
- Great pay. Start at 180 and can coast up to 250.
- Easy work. At times tedious but it's easy. At least for the first 5 years.
- Good benefits. Free food, firm parties and other fringe benefits.
- Incredible job security. It's hard to get fired at many shops with the bare minimum effort. Can mail it in completely and last a few years. Easy enough to lateral that coasting for 10 years of Biglaw paycheck is very possible.
Negatives-
- Unpredictable schedule can hurt familymos.
- Often boring work. We aren't athletes or CEOs. But most jobs on this world are boring.
- Sometimes work with difficult personalities. This varies highly based on firm and group.
Overall, a 175 job for 25-35 year olds. Ljl at litigators though

When I was in Biglaw, that's about what I actually worked.
I was in the office from 9-9, but only worked 10-630.
I also pretended to work on the weekends and billed for that. That said, 1/3rd of weekends I had to actually do real work cause real shit popped up.

False unless you're talking a V10. In which case you can lateral down and coast just fine.
By coast, I'm referring to someone who shows up everyday and puts their 8 hours in. Pads their 6 billable hrs to 7.5. Produces relatively error free work and is decently responsive.
Yes, if you no show every day, ghost clients/coworkers, or produce shitty work then you won't last long. Even so, you can probably last 3 firms and 5 years like this.

I actually agree with this. The difference between what you can get away with at v5 vs v30 is stark.
That said, at the end of your 10-15 year coast, you'll be pretty unemployable. At a certain point the firm will expect you to be a revenue center, especially outside the top tier firms, and a coaster will have trouble doing it. But you would have made a lot of cash by then.

The most CR law job (outside of law professor, which is 180 trillion) is whatever a biglaw firm calls its permanent doc reviewers. Some firms call them "staff attorneys." Some call them "discovery attorneys."
Either way, these guys work very predictable 9-6 hours and get the luxuries of a biglaw office (nice private office, benefits, "prestige" of being a lawyer at a white shoe firm, etc) but do nothing but second level doc review (checking the contract doc review apes' works), work with vendors to coordinate collection, and maybe negotiate some discovery search terms.
Boring? Sure. But it's nearly zero stress, pays probably between $100k and 160k, and you still get to tell people you're an attorney at XYZ firm. Listen to a podcast, click "responsive" or "not responsive" for a few hours, go home.

This wasn't true back in the ITE days, but with today's tight labor market, associates have a lot more room to coast. Associate attrition is down across the entire V100, and firms are competing hard to fill certain lateral positions.
The key to coasting is to deliberately choose a less preftigious firm than you could have landed (or to lateral down). Your TTT but Cravath-matching firm will be happy just to have you, and you'll be smarter than most other associates (and many partners), allowing you to hand in similar quality work product with less effort.
