i don't really care about their domestic politics, that's their problem
internationally, it seems ridiculous to treat russia as a cartoon villain to be opposed at every turn simply for the sake of opposing them. from an objective standpoint, it would be much better to seek cooperation in areas where we have common interests rather than blindly oppose them. syria seems to be an obvious case for this, russia is on the side of stability there, and we should be working with them to achieve that goal rather than trying to sabotage any potential end to the civil war in order to curb 'russian influence'. in other arenas, we should be taking a pragmatic approach.
