I've been fencing since January nearly 6 days a week and I absolutely love this sport. Most people seem to fence foil, however, my friend and I have been showing some interest in saber. We were initially given foils because "that's what beginners use". I can't help but think the element of slashing involved in saber fencing expands the sport greatly.
I've heard that different weapons suit different personalites and body types, although im not sure how.
Now I know most of you are going to say "Why don't you try saber and see for yourself?" I'll obviously do that, but I want to hear your opinions anyway
Do most of the skills learned from foil carry over to saber? What are the major differences from your experiences if you switched from foil to saber, aside from the obvious?
So do you think I would be a good candidate for a sabre guy?
I'm certainly a short guy (5'4 and 20 years old!), and a slim one at that. When fencing with foil, I tend to stay on the defensive ( anticipate an attack, parry, and counterattack ) but that may be because I usually fence people with longer arm reaches. I tend to be very aggressive with fencers I know I can beat. I hate how fencing comes to a halt when someone hits off target, which i hear isn't true for sabre. However, I do love the mental strategy involved when fencing foil.

It finally happened...
After months and months of half ass attempts, I finally had a lucid dream while taking an afternoon nap. And on top of that, it was surprisingly vivid. Leave the old grainy choppy dreams at home; this was as close to real life as dreams get. It certainly was the most detailed dream I've ever had (or at least remembered)
My journey started out as a half-nightmare. I had to work at K-mart again for some reason I forgot (I think it was to get paid for my vacation) When that was over, my dad picked me up (guess I didn't have the car that night?) and did the weirdest thing by telling me he was going to the bathroom, open his pants, and pissing on the side on the passenger seat door. Now I really really really wish I wrote all of this down while I was in my dreamy haze when I woke up because what I remember is vague. What I know is that there was some coherent sequence to events, and it was very detailed. It was so detailed that in this one scene I was driving shortly after work (yes...I know my dad picked me up but he dissappeared for some reason) and I was contemplating whether or not I was in a dream. Normally when this had happened in the past I'd realize it was a dream right away. But this time, I thought that I may not be dreaming simply because everything was so goddamn real and authentic. I looked at the car clock, looked away, and then looked back to see that the time was all garbled. I knew I had to take advantage of this. I had to have some hardcore sex. So I used my cellphone to call some escort service and this pale brunette chick who was slightly taller than me walks in the door of this hotel that I was now in. What was interesting was that she stole a bunch of features from overly sexy girls I knew, but wasn't anyone in particular. Anyway, I must have gotten too excited and started slipping away from my dream. I was waking up and I knew it. I couldn't let this happen so I started using the "spin" technique and it worked! I AM THE KING. But things weren't the same afterwards. I ended up at a funeral full of asian people bent on using kung-fu all the time. Don't ask, it confused me too...I look foward to meeting the dream world soon

So what's happened recently? Not much. Planescape Torment, albeit a little outdated, is a fucking awesome game. Craig and I share the same awkwardness around super tall people. Wagner's car breaks down too often. Greg was right, Mcgriddles rock. Too many cops with too much free time try and figure out what suspicious behavior me and some other friend are up to. I should be home before my parents leave for work. I think Becky hates me, ah well. Oh yea, have I mentioned that last Wed was my last day at work forever? And that it's closing down to turn into a home depot? Well it is, and I'm happy.
