I feel ashamed caring so much about expensive guitars

mexican vs american fenders.
american fender basses vs. indonesian sire marcus miller basses
Ibanez makes very high quality basses for a fraction of the cost of similar anerican made boutique basses
very nice korean made epiphones.
Yeah if I were in the market for an electric guitar a gibson prob woild not be near the top of the list (aside from a second hand SG).

I say no it is not worth the mark up. The mexican p bass is a fine instrument and almost nothing separates it from the american model.
Additionally, the american elite pbass is a few hundred dollars more than the american standard model and has a lot more features (jazz bridge pickup, active eq, active/passive switch). It is a beautiful guitar. I believe there is also a mexican version with similar features. You can also get the indonesian made Sire P7, which I own, for $500.
Basically, unless you are in a touring band that exclusively needs a p-bass tone, an American p-bass is not worth the money.

rate my disappointment - I bought a Mexican Strat 70s reissue in like 2001 for $400 or so. I always loved playing it and never noticed any issues with it.
During law school the nut broke and the guitar tech did a shitty job installing a new one, and the 6th string started having severe buzz around the 12th fret and up. Some buzzing down low on the neck too. Really sucked.
Fast forward a few years, I get a les paul, and it blows everything I've ever played out of the water (still does). Strat sounded weak and tinny compared to my LP. Put my strat away for a few years.
Fast forward to this year, I decided to "hot rod" my strat, getting a legit setup and a set of Lindy Fralin blues specials pickups (very nice). Cost like $350 total.
Deliver guitar to get all of the work done, guitar tech calls me back in. Tells me that the neck heel on the strat is slightly higher on the 6th string side than the 1st string side. He tells me that this is a sometimes issue with mexican strats. Without major expensive wood working, he recommends that I get a completely new neck. New neck is $200 for the same neck. At this point, the cost is getting ridiculous, I can get a nice american for under $1000.
What do I do now? BTW the Fralins sound awesome, way better than the stock.

I'm thinking this. I can always just keep my Fralin pickups and put them on the next one
Fucking sucks balls. The guitar itself is beautiful.
The neck I would change to is apparently the same model as my current? 70s reissue, fat headstock
