Every single block of DTLA is an eyesore shithole with constantly awful traffic getting to and from it. You would be choosing to live in the part of LA that lacks every redeeming quality of the city except good restaurants. No one goes out downtown except for after-work happy hours and asians going to the EDM clubs.

People who complain about DTLA are suburban type motorheads who are afraid of a little urban grit.

I'm not an expert on exactly where in downtown is the best place to be, but it should be fine in general, as long as you are not near Skid Row which is up on 6th St kind of northeast of the main downtown area.

DTLA is pretty cool now, why deal with a commute, you can explore other parts of the city on weekends or at night and if you find some area you love you can move there later on.

It's rough out there. Had a buddy who was living in a downtown high rise for quite a few years. Owner booted him out and said he was converting to full time airbnb

DTLA is the only credited option, given your situation.

[redacted] You can likely talk them down in price if you're a clean cut bro who works as a lawyer.

I'll provide an update of places you don't want to live in.

What's your budget?

Under $2k there are only a few buildings. If you're a clean cut bro you can talk them down. Or if you can tolerate a small studio in a luxury building then you're fine.

I could probably stomach around 2300-2400 if I get rid of my car and stop spending so much money on bullshit.

Then you're fine. In that territory you get to choose what kind of pool and jacuzzi you want. And your rooftop comes with a built in social scene. Enjoy.

I was a Downtownmo and am now a Santa Monicamo and I have to say, living Downtown sucks. It's just too dirty and trafficky. Live near the ocean, or somewhere cleaner like Los Feliz.

Culver City and west of it and northwest of it are the best bang for your buck while still being by the 10 to commute to downtown imo

Highly dependent on the day and time you leave and exactly what route you have to take to get to the 10. 25 min on average

LJL at living in SoCal and earning $110k. You should get into private industry or GTFO asap. I would have zero desire to live in LA on less than $300k HHI.

I hear rents are low in DTLA. they're practically free if you have any camping gear. it's great if you like vibrant neighborhoods with diversity

tbqf they're all kind of interchangeable from what I've seen. no real slumlords or anything (since everything is a luxury condo now). some cheaper places cater towards USC students, but they're not bad.

anyways, when I mean close, I really do mean close. like across the street or one or two blocks away.

if you live in DTLA, don't bother driving. just uber. parking costs like $200 a month by itself. uber is probably cheaper than just parking.
