Basically, when you, e.g., move your hand, your brain does 2 things. 1. it sends the command to your hand. 2. it sends an internal signal that more or less communicates "I initiated this act." The theory is that the same thing happens with thoughts, your brain 1. initiates the thought, and 2. sends an internal signal that says "this thought came from me." In schizophrenics, the second part is all fucked up. The brain doesn't get the proper 2nd signal, so you feel like the thought came from somewhere external. |
