no, the real problem nowadays is that employers want very specific experience in filling their job openings.
they don't want to train. they just want people who have done the specific tasks of the job for X number of years.
forget the days of hiring smart, talented people and then having them learn on the job. if you don't meet the specific experience requirement, your resume goes in the trash. in fact, many employers have algorithms that weed out resumes that lack the required experience.
and entry level positions don't want to hire anyone in their 30s or 40s; they want cheap labor in the form of new graduates.
hence -- changing to a completely new career in your 30s and 40s is extraordinarily difficult.
