see, you have all of these areas of the world that are extremely poor and dangerous.
for people who live in these areas, let's say they need a form of currency in order to make an exchange. well, what are they to do? cash of any form is too dangerous to carry. of course, the things we are used to, such as credit cards, are not available to these people.
but bitcoin, and other forms of electronic currency, opens up doors for these people. with bitcoin, they can pull out their iphones and make a transaction knowing that they're not going to be ripped off.
