ONSet was rapid; departure was anything but, as we found out through the ensuing four weeks of diarrheal discomfort, laid up outside of Tompenmon. WE managed our way through it, but not without certain losses: our summerwhite linens were all but destroyed; the panama hats were in a sorry state for reasons I won't get into. LL cool j's "rock the bells" was about the only solace we had--we played it continuously throughout the period of illness. LURid fever dreams flowed into sweating, fetid waking hours as we emptied out our insides night after day after night, one endless stream of disgust spilled out onto the dirt of the camp. EHit, the caravan doctor, came upon a cure on the fourth week: prayer to the idol of scholarship; once we laid down our pretensions and worries and opened up our souls to the possibility of continuous scholarly endeavor, the sickness left us as quickly as it had come on. IM suggesting, dear brother, that rather than retire, you consider delving deeper into the endless well of the mind that is here for your daily partaking and taking. IN this and only this will you find cure rest and repose, as we ourselves did to permit our continued journey.

EDC - Dakine Gemini 28L in Gray. Extremely "clean" exterior, all the organization is internal, so it's stealthy and not going to catch on anything. Nylon and zippers on this are high quality.
Sling (outdoors) - Chrome Kadet in red (180 color for this). I normally dislike slings, but the way this one is designed you can nail the fit/comfort. Material and stitching are solid and in the extremely rare event it gets fucked up, can walk it to the store in SF and get it repaired onsite.
I have a couple other bags but I wouldn't call them standout. A Mountain Hardware that I dropped their camera insert into for hiking. Good bag, no complaints, but I'm sure it's nothing stand out versus any other hiking day pack. Also, a small Kenneth Prole leather messenger that basically holds an iPad and various knick knacks that I keep in my car if I wind up in the city and will be walking around. |
