Soccer isn't a be bigger and run faster sport - you can't pick it up when you're 17 and go on to compete at an elite level. You need to have top level coaching starting at a young age.
We don't have unlimited resources. USSOCCER is not very well funded - not to mention that we have to actually worry about equally funding the men's and women's teams, which other top countries would LOL at. |

Soccer fans bloviate about how football is only 11 minutes of action, but this is actually an asset for football. You can more easily watch replays, go piss, eat food, talk to your friend, or assess strategy without missing any of the actual parts of the game. Plus, in all of those 11 minutes of actual action, something is clearly happening to a much greater degree than the typical soccer match. -Less interesting strategy, at least compared to football. I'd say baseball is more strategic as well but it's pretty close. Hockey and basketball have similar strategy levels, or are even mildly less strategic, but they're also more exciting. |
