While overprescription can be blamed for a modest number of new addictions, less than 1% of opioid patients with no history of drug addiction become addicted. Those who do become addicted are 3 times more likely to have illegally obtained the opioid than to have obtained it through a legitimate prescription. |

I wasn't able to find the number of overdose deaths caused solely by prescription opioids, but it can't be any more than a small fraction of that 165k. Heroin OD statistics are what you should look at. Many of these people were led to heroin directly as a result of opioid addiction.
