Old SNES games are 100x more fun than modern TTT trash like Battlefield and COD

Fortunately now tons of great games are out that don't have all the garbage of AAA games geared towards retards who suck at video games.
Many of them took SNES Era formulas and improved/combined them/made them online multi-player.
We are in the best era of video games ever, my dude.

Rocket League.
Smash Bros series.
FPS, MOBA, RTS all barely existed in in SNES era.
Dozens of Metroidvania games.
A hundred twin stick shooters.
A hundred platformers.
What sort of games do you like?

Someone told me MGSV was an amazing game
I played it and it was a quicktime sequence snuff film
Battlefield / COD are just explosions and cutscenes at this point

Just about every AAA game these days is some shit amalagamation of open-world "activities" to clear checklist-style, stealth, and RPG elements, with a weak story and narrative structure. Whether it's God Of War, Assassin's Creed, or Horizon Zero Dawn, all games are basically converging into one shitty "game." It's like that one great post about all American women converging into one shitty shrewy personality.
Luckily there are tons of indy games picking up the slack, although it can be hard to find one of the scope I'd prefer. For example, shmups haven't been the same since the big boys got out of the genre. You don't see indie studios pumping out stuff like Gradius V with full production values.

I liked Jamestown and there are plenty of playable games, but they don't have the polish and production values of your Gradius V, Radiant Silvergun, R-Type Final, Ikaruga, Mars Matrix, etc. Something was definitely lost from the major devs entirely ceding certain genres to the indies. There are some great 2-d side scrolling beatemups too, but nothing on the level of guardian heroes, etc. And I'd love to play a real $60 Mega Man game rather than these shit retro sequels . . . something with the kind of effort put into it that the modern Rayman games had. My point is, I'd love to see something other than a focus-tested open world piece of shit get a real budget.

Gotta agree that the best games don't have the biggest budgets, at all.
Tons of good beat em ups as I understand it but I don't play them much. I'd rather play a fighting game against people, and there's lots of those.
Guacamelee might be up your alley. Furi is pretty good but I suck at it.

I just found an epic fucking shmup. It's called CounterAttack, it's on steam, it's $7.99.
It has literally hundreds of unlockable weapon mods that can interact with each other, combined with a Gradius style powerup system and level design with 30 stages/branching paths. I played 4 hours tonight and I've unlocked less than 10% but I've already made ships more broken than anything I've ever seen in a shmup. There are 8 or so ships with different supermoves, and different maxes in each powerup category, so between all the weapon mods and making different builds for different ships it's amazing.
Only downsides are uneven music quality, weak ship art designs, and shitty bosses (although the wave shooting is great). Even taking that into account, it's the best game I've played in this genre in a long time. One of the only shmups I've ever played that I could see myself playing 10+ hours straight.
