what about american moms separated from their children when they are arrested and jailed pending trial?
why is there even an outrage about this? when women commit crime they get arrested and are separated from family. happens everyday in american courts

first, it is 100% different. the inquiry is whether there is abuse or neglect and if it is in the child's best interest to be placed outside of their home. It is not punitive or a political tool.
Second, if there is a temporary removal of a child from a home, it's only after an investigation. If it is going to be permanent or there will be a termination of parental rights, it's after a full trial.
lol @ this absurd analogy.

It is 100% the same. Mother is incarcerated or otherwise suspected of not being able to care for a minor child and DSS takes the child immediately, with this power only tempered by their obligation to have a probable cause hearing no later than 72 hours after removal. Judges friendly to DSS almost always find that there is probable cause. No different than Mom getting popped for illegal entry, although from the pictures it seems that these kids are in a far nicer, safer place than where American kids go to in state DSS custody.
As for getting the children back, state DSS agencies have a perverse financial incentive to (1) indicate a case for abuse (the number of indications is what their funding is based upon), (2) keep the child in a DSS run foster home (which DSS gets paid by the state by the child), and (3) DSS gets funding for their adoption departments based upon how many adoptions the do. Yes, there are safeguards, but these safeguards are only as good as the people who act in positions of authority, and it breaks down in cases. The people who comprise this system are almost all women, they are almost all very poor themselves, and some are prone to pursue petty grievance. It is a horrible, horrible system. further, it affects thousands of American families each year and disproportionately affects families of color and particularly Hispanic families.
I have seen kids get TPR'ed in cases that would boggle your mind.
But hey, let's all hold hands and emote over the plight of foreigners who are entering the country illegally.

Otherwise fit mother is detained in [county jail/ government immigration Nazi death camp]. Kid is taken care of by government until parents get out. Sometimes they cry.
Where is the disconnect here?

cr.
if these are all modular/tent style facilities anyways then (edit: "retrofit them to") just keep them together. doesn't really impair ability to deport imho.
unless this is all a way to get sessions out of the way; 8-D chess, etc.

I agree mainly because using the kids as a pawn to discourage border crossings and get the wall done will not work, because:
1) The idea of separating kids from parents runs counter to American values.
2) It will be horrible optics for Trump
3) It will actually hurt families/kids unnecessarily.
4) It won't actually discourage border crossings.
