Pumo in question here. CSLG was kind enough to invite me into his office, which is adorned with 180 boxing/fighting pictures, and feed me Stonefire BBQ (I went with the pulled pork sandwich, which was excellent https://stonefiregrill.com/menu/sandwiches/pulled-pork/).
I do tranny work and don't know the first thing about litigating, but CSLG walked me through how he goes from first contact with a client to settlement. I'm going to go to a mediation with him next month to get some hands on experience. I expressed interest at taking on a small case to get my feet wet/see what it's like and he didn't hesitate to offer to send something my way when I strike out on my own.
I think the most 180 exchange was when I said I had never done litigation and wasn't sure if I could succeed at doing something I had never done. He said, essentially, why not - I (he) started without knowing what he was doing and quickly learned. It really hit home that there's no secret "trick" to succeeding - you just have to take the leap and take a chance.
Focus on the next 6 months is going to be on saving money. I have about 4, maybe 5 months of no-income living expenses available now, but I'd like to get that to 12 before quitting the biglaw rat race.
EDIT: I also heard kenny (I think, maybe it was chandler) on the phone, who sounds pretty cool. This kid interning with him walked into his office while we were speaking and was like "xo?" and I'm like "yeah."

I have plenty of in-house options. I work in a niche part of law and could go in house but I've done it before and it's the same mundane shit, and you're always answering to somebody else.
If I can make 100k as a solo I'd be happier than making 300k in house.
I work in a niche tranny industry and could conceivably do that work on an hourly basis to supplant the PI work I'd take on a contingent basis.
Cannot stress how cool CSLG was. I literally emailed him out of the blue last week and he invited me over, fed me, and answered every question I had. I heard him talk to some people on the phone too and he's *good* if you know what I mean - speaks with confidence, knows what he's doing, but is also laid back enough that you'd want to hang out with him even if he wasn't your lawyer. I can see why clients gravitate towards him.

That was Chandler on the phone.
That kid is one of my paralegals (he is actually 25 and has a degree in bio from UCLA). I'll tell him you called him an intern though lol.
Pumo is coming with me to a rollover mediation in July. Client got 4 injections and his car was flipped over by a semi truck. Should settle pretty well. Their initial offer was 35k our demand is 250k. Hopefully settles close to 100K.
