Pretty impressive discipline if you're a radio operator on a submarine and you see the hull of your sub breached and you have the wherewithal to follow orders and radio back news of your ship's sinking and what caused it.

Almost none- rarely another German sub would pick them up, but they had no free room to fit another crew on board.
