How long have you been an inhousemo. Do you dream about going solo, or is it still worth it?
I'm using my current in-house gig for connections etc (it's a solid player in my industry) but grinding it out for GC is killing my soul a little bit. I want to go solo and be my own boss and all that. Is there hoap?

1) I enjoy my work and my area
2) The WFH (see below)
3) The stability. I used to work for a small business and the constant booms and busts are exhausting. I like knowing what my salary will be, that I can take vacation, that there's the potential for a promotion. Overall, it is a pretty good lifestyle. Yes, it does involve a lot of work but everything lucrative does.

$200-$250k, depending on bonus, profit sharing, etc.
If I get the promotion I'm gunning for I'll be getting ~$300k and will probably just stay where I am at that point, assuming that happens.
Keep in mind, I work from home like 90% of the time. This is a huge draw for me. I also get over 4 weeks of vacation.

Do you ever feel any of the following things about your career decision:
(1) You're paid enough to be comfortable, but not enough to really build any real wealth such that you can escape the rat race. Even counsels at lower tier biglaw are making 2X. Absent making GC somewhere, you can't get a ton of $.
(2) you don't really build or create anything whatsoever.
(3) You basically have no control over your existence. Some megacorp bureaucracy decides your future.

1) Yes, of course. That's the UMC trap. Btw, people making 2x as much look at those that make 2x as much as they do, etc.
2) Actually, no, I feel like I'm actually useful.
3) For sure and this is probably the worst thing.

Periodically.
By sending them emails and scheduling calls? You basically use them as external contractors. The extent of management depends on the task. For some things you just get warm bodies that supplement your team, for others you just send to them and get work product back.
I will say that choosing them is probably the most interesting thing. Basically, you have a few go-to firms that you like for a variety of reasons, like that they helped you out without a fee on something and they have really strong knowledge of the subject area.

You know, when I started at my current job I was 100% committed to creating smart subfolders and filing everything. Like at a firm you always do this because otherwise keeping various matters organized is awful. Probably within 6 months this all fell apart and my inbox is largely unsorted. I did the same thing for my calendar (different color coding for different projects/types of meetings) and now it is all just red (stuff I really need to attend) and not red (stuff I don't).
We don't "file emails" (or at least I don't).
