i've contemplated all the different routes to get out of wage slavery

selling shit on amazon is the only way to go, guys.

you can do it while still having a full time job and building up your revenue stream passively.

you heard it here first.

Not flame. I tried this. Very hard to differentiate your product and competition from Chinese manufacturers is fierce. Even if you get in early on a hot new item, competitors will come in and drive margins down in 6 months. You end up spending a third of your revenue on marketing.

this is waht i'm seeing to, and i'm not sure what my long term strategy is here

for example, after spending a few weeks on product research, i've found a few good products to sell that (currently) have low competition. i'm going to try selling them, but as soon as they get more popular, the competition is going to increase dramatically. on one product, i'm already seeing that margins have shrunk (prices have dropped by a few dollars since i first did research on it).

i think the way around this is to try to build a brand on amazon. try to sell products that fit together so that you have a customer base and can offer them additional products down the line and they will be more willing to buy from you and you alone. obviously much easier said than done though. right now i'm just trying to sell a few random products that i think will make me $$

what do you do now?

Yeah, that brand building shit and offering a suite of related products was always the idea for me too. Hard to execute unless you're selling a product where quality and perception matter. Most of the time there's 5-10 manufacturers in China all making the same shit, same quality. Good luck brother. Also, Amazon killed the review for discount sites so not sure how you get that initial visibility quickly.

I'm currently wagecucking pretty hard right now.

this is EXACTLY what i'm finding too

even the products i found (i found 3 during my product research phase) are all being manufactured by TONS of chinese factories on alibaba. literally using almost identical looking pictures. and in my head i'm thinking, how the hell is this a sustainable business model when you have 15 different factories in china making the same plastic shit? you really have to differentiate your product by doing better packaging than your competition, it seems.

i'm currently trying to figure out a product to sell on amazon where quality and perception matter. have a few ideas that i need to research.

wagecucking is a fucking soul sickness, brother. get the fuck out. how much were you pulling in off amazon?

i was still wagecucking when running amazon but i'd invest like $3K-5K across 2-3 products and could earn 50-100% return annually but it was hardly passive income nor was it sustainable. after 6 months selling an item, we'd notice other new competitors practically selling at cost or even loss just to boost sales and their seller ranking and grab market share.

there used to be website clubs where you could give 90% discounts to customers in exchange for 4 or 5 star ratings. You could practically give away 30 units and get 30 reviews 4-5 star reviews on your product which is crucial when first starting off otherwise your product gets buried on like the 10th page for the relevant search terms. Amazon killed these review sites and made it against rules to give away product or provide huge discounts for positive reviews.

i've heard retail arbitrage is VERRRY low margin. it's a volume game there.

general strategy is to build a brand on amazon and then grow your own website. the ultimate goal should not just be to sell on amazon. the ultimate goal should be to build a brand using amazon to get you started. or at least that's what i've gathered so far

What you need to do is have connections with Chinese manufacturers that will make believable knockoff items that you can then sell on Amazon via Amazon Fulfillment. Amazon is absolutely chock-full of knockoffs. Any sort of item that's made mostly of plastic that is patented in the US has a large amount of fraudulent copies floating around Amazon's warehouses.

I knew a dude who had family in China that sold GE water filters on Amazon. The genuine filter has a MSRP of $50, but this guy could get 1,000 of them delivered from China straight to Amazon's warehouse for under $5 a filter. Let's just say the water being filtered wasn't exactly pure...

Yeah, could probably make a killing selling Brita knockoffs. Those Brita pitchers sell for $20 but probably cost $3 each to make. If customs catches you though they take all your counterfeit shit.
