This was before I was a lawyer, and did not know how to handle the situation correctly; if it happened now, I would have a bad faith suit drafted and on the desk of the company counsel about 72 hours after the initial denial. Except that they wouldn't try to pull that bullshit, because it isn't an option.
A friend of mine broke his arm skiing and went to the hospital. The same insurer denied this claim as a preexisting condition as well.
Obamacare may be a fucked-up frankenpolicy with absurd costs, but bullshit denials for preexisting conditions were hardly "fucking nonsense." |

But please tell me how Obamacare regulated any costs (they still kept going up), and in particular why it is a good thing that tens of millions of productive middle class types had their premiums increase 100% a year for several years after Obamacare was enacted? assume I’m low IQ like you alleged.

Individual plans have gone up a ton (not sure where the 400% number comes from but you can find plenty of numbers like 79% in 2014 alone). But that makes sense given that pre-ACA an individual plan was just an invitation to pay money in order to negotiate how hard your ass got fucked when you actually had a major illness. It’s simple math, given that insurers are getting huge subsidies and charging more and still losing tons of money and withdrawing from the exchanges. If the GOP actually does anything to do away with pre-existing conditions or lifetime limits they will get raped in the midterms and murder-raped in 2020. I pay $1400/mo for a family of 3 with no health issues. This is the lowest amount I can pay to be compliant.
I haven't been to a doctor in years, so it's effectively catastrophic coverage for me.
No publicly available plan (I'm technically self-employed) is taken by PAMF, the largest medical group by me -- the one that "everyone" uses. So most doctors recommended to us by friends won't take our $1400/mo insurance.
My wife goes to what is effectively a clinic for OBGYN. Maybe one half-step above what true poors go to.
Poasters tell me to just do Kaiser, but I can't shake its reputation in my head, and with Stanford and UCSF in our backyard, if something really did go wrong, why would I want to leave it up to Kaiser to determine whether they would refer us to them? |

i lived it.
i was hired into a difficult job. the workplace's insurance premiums had gone sky-high because of the ACA. so, to skirt contributing to employees' insurance, they began hiring full-time workers, like me, "part time." it was tough to get employment, and it was considered a good job, so people would still accept it.
so i had to work full-time, get paid under 30 hours per week, and get destroyed with obscene obamacare premiums each month paying for my own insurance on top of my reduced pay.
add those ridiculous ACA monthly costs into rent, student loan payments, and utilities and other costs, and I thought to myself, "why the hell am i working my ass off in a difficult job, to take home this small amount of pay, all to pay for the insurance of those who don't work (many of whom are quite able bodied)?"
it literally felt stupid to slog through the horrors of work instead of just quit, get medicaid, get subsidized housing, food stamps, etc., and not have to work. and maybe sell some drugs on the side for extra cash. |
