Lifting has the lowest injury rate of basically any athletic activity, and the current scientific consensus is that it’s paramount for preventing sarcopenia and age-related quality of life degeneration.
Pull with good form (flat back) and proper programming (don’t max every day), and you’ll be fine. Why is this so hard to understand?
He’s not a cult member like :D so he should understand this.

it pains me to have to go over this thread again with you idiots because you're so retarded you can't think beyond a 3rd grade level. "ooga booga, big weights = buff, strong, health, good" is how you fucking retards come across to anyone with some perspective / balance on this issue.
first of all, your "studies" are all irrelevant. i'm sure nobody did fucking studies about the added benefit of deadlifting 400 lb vs 200 lb.
i said you can go ahead and deadlift 200 lb. i said it's STUPID to have the sort of mentality that would usually lead to deadlifting 400 lb. there's a big fucking difference you stupid retard.
ok sure, lift with good form and good "programming." those will certainly help. however that doesn't obviate the very OBVIOUS FACT that lifting a 400 lb bar off the floor, for the average office worker ESPECIALLY, defies all common sense as to what the body is supposed to do, is capable of doing, looks good as a result of doing, or is functionally benefited from doing. it's just plain bananas retarded nonsense bullshit.
if you have one bodily irregularity that renders "good form" moot, or you make one chronic mistake that gradually builds up, or you have an acute lapse in judgment and have an accident, you can get fucked up for life. i would even argue that, again, for the average office worker, it's perfectly natural to get fucked up from progressing a deadlift from 200 lb to 400 lb while sitting in an office chair for 12 hrs/day.
and all of the above would come at the expense of doing the multitudinous number of things with regards to fitness that has a WAY HIGHER marginal benefit in terms of health, fitness, looks, and feeling good. you're just grinding yourself to an obvious injury.
now fuck off and die before your idiocy gives me a headache

stupid. surely you've heard of the gymcel? or do i need to post pics to remind you all of this again?
high quality women, and women in general, and especially asians, do not like huge guys. getting BIG really has diminishing returns.
idiotic meathead wannabes who advocate for the deadlift for functional/health reasons are also the sort of insensitive dumb fucks who are unable to grasp the nuances of aesthetics and therefore erroneously believe that gymcelling from 200 lb deadlift to 400 lb deadlift is actually a big difference in the eyes of women, and that it's "by a huge margin" the best form of looksmaxing there is - but it's not.

holy fucking shit, i want to slap you in the face. this level of bovine herd-like idiocy reminds me of crypto fags who point to their favorite shitcoin, pens some 100 IQ argumentation and then smugly tells you to "think about the value proposition."

"with a flat back"
Well the issue is you're assuming perfect form every time forever.
Look I used to DL 350. Not amazing, but not shit. I DL around 200 now because I'm in my 30s and have a kiddood and want to be able to play with kiddood instead of laying on my back with a herniated disk because I was mid-DL and my kid screamed and I lost concentration. Or a yellow jacket flew by. Or I sneezed. Or I just got half an hour too little sleep last night. Etc.

start with very low weight. film your sets from the side to check form. do not lift clothed or you won't be able to see back clearly obvs.

I’m going to respond to this point separately, even though you make it in your post above, because it is worth emphasizing.
Your comment about “structural weaknesses and irregularities” evinces an extremely poor understanding of the cause of injury and pain. Everyone is asymmetric and irregular to some degree and barring gross malformations this is usually not causally related to injuries (which are often are the cause of chronic overwork and under recovery).
There’s a more in depth discussion here:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.strongerbyscience.com/important-muscular-symmetry-strength-sports/amp/
Further, this sort of purely structural model of injury and pain has been dispensed with by modern science. The “back pain” the office workers you lampoon complain about is often partially caused by psycho-social factors. For a scientific reference you can check a recent issue of The Lancet; for a popular audience I like Paul Ingraham’s Complete Guide to Low Back Pain, which is meticulously referenced. (Use google.)

You should read that again, carefully. Lifting is an inherently low risk sport and everyone has minor structural imbalances and does fine. Even top lifters hoisting 500 pounds above their heads.
You should also check that Lancet issue homie.

for the vast majority of men over 35, I would not suggest deadlifting. The risk v. reward isn't there.
however, men must keep squatting for that keeps the gay away

you're a retard.
they should do yoga, pilates, calisthenics - many hours of these - before even touching a fucking weight.
throwing them into deadlifts before they've learned to activate certain muscles they have, means you're telling them to do a dangerous activity "with proper form" when they're not even equipped to be able to achieve proper form.

sure, it's not that hard to deadlift up to 200 lb. you should probably do that, if you feel like it, as part of a well balanced fitness regimen, meaning it should occupy less than 10% of your energy.
but for people of YOUR mindset, it becomes a central focus and you want to get up to 400 lb, which IS hard, and that's what i'm criticizing.
you: LITERALLY TOO STUPID TO READ AND COMPREHEND BASIC ARGUMENTS AT A 3rd GRADE LEVEL

lol this is so incredibly dumb. you don't need hours of fucking yoga to do a proper deadlift. it's not even an exercise that requires any flexibility. if an argument can be made for any exercise people may not be able to achieve proper form without some buildup it's the squat, which requires some hamstring flexibility to do properly.
as long as you don't start of lifting more than you can do with proper form there's no reason not to march over from your office and deadlift.
do you know anything at all about lifting btw?

yeah dude, the average office worker doesn't need ANY mobility work or supplementary corrective exercises to begin progressing to a 400 lb deadlift. he can go from sitting in an office chair for 12 hours straight to the gym and start lifting 400 lb.
the back is like a well-oiled perpetual machine that was MEANT to do deadlifts.

you are so dumb, i hate having to spell this out for you:
yes, you start at a weight you can handle, and then you up the weight when you are strong enough to handle more. but, there are certain movements and exercises, and i believe deadlift to be one, where your strength should not be the only limiting factor for how high you set the weight to be. because i think, for various reasons, that even if you CAN progess to a 400 lb deadlift, it doesn't mean you SHOULD attempt to do that, because you'll very likely meet with injury along the way and it's simply not worth it.
was this very hard for you to comprehend and digest, and more importantly, infer? i hate having to talk to grown men like little kids, but here i am.

The CNS shit is just broscience voodoo. They’ve done studies on this and it’s just a myth.
Also lol at “genetically vulnerable.”
Squatting and benching also tax the low back. So does basically any loaded human movement. What is so special about the deadlift? This is just fearmongering bullshit.
Incidentally, this kind of catastrophising is correlated with onset of and poor recovery from pain and injury.

Also, more generally, why would a pre-workout stimulant lead to better performance (as evidenced by numerous studies and real world experiences) if CNS activation doesn’t play a part in strenuous exercise?

hmm..
"what could possibly be so special about the "deadlift" with regards to the lower back?? the bench press also stresses the lower back! in fact, thinking that the deadlift could lead to injury and worrying about that, is bad for your psychological mood, which is the REAL cause of injury!"
hmm
