In the state I'm looking at, around 60K/year after 25 yrs. LJL.

But the even better part of teaching is the SUMMERS and HOLIDAYS OFF. What other profession gives you 4 months off a year?

well, for one, there is a huge dearth of math/science teachers, so you're much more likely to get a job and a higher salary...plus easier to grade exams. And it was my favorite subject growing up. And you don't need to master anything beyond Differential Equations to teach high school...so it's all pretty basic.

the grading is way easier, and assigning problems to solve is easier than assigning writing assignments. plus, i think teaching the methods of solving math problems is easier than teaching writing -- so much of that is innate.

literally your kid could grade assignments for you at home

i am not a super libarts kind of person, so I don't think teaching creative writing or whatever would be a good fit for me...it's probably too wishy washy and i wouldn't know how to teach it. Math/science seem easier to teach to be honest, because there's more structure.

my brief foray was HS english. it's brutal, even though i was a lib arts guy. i had to teach some middle schoolers some math during some training sessions and i found it a million times better and easier than trying to teach english.

English seems like the hardest core subject to teach. There's not much substance to teach IMO, and you have to come up with thought-provoking classes that somehow stimulative creativity and "objectively" grade papers. I just don't have the creativity for that and wouldn't be able to come up with a lesson plan. History, government, etc. at least have facts that you can teach.

I think you can do a master's education with a focus on math, but i'm not entirely sure if it varies by state

My friend's wife did a Master's Education with focus on math in only 1.5 years (she didn't even have a math background either and had to take all the math classes) and ended up teaching math in high school

unbelievable. i should have been a hs math teacher. i didnt realize you didnt even need to be a math major for that. its probably the most chill, easiest white collar job in the world.

im awkward and have severe social anxiety though. would that not work out with being in front of people leading classes? i remember all of my math teachers werent very charismatic at all.

you need to take a certain number of math classes but you don't need a major. requirements vary by state though. very doable within 1.5-2 years.

i think it's easier talking in front of kids than adults - like who cares what kids think about you (lol). so you might have less social anxiety in front of children. you should be able to present concepts well, but you don't have to be outgoing to be a teacher
