Attacking Putin personally during a joint press conference is a really fucking stupid idea and carries much higher risk and no benefit at all. Dealing with the issue in private to offer an opportunity for Vladimir to save face in exchange for better relations strikes me as textbook diplomacy.
Would you prefer Trump had drawn a red line and dared Putin (or anyone in his administration with the power to do so) to engage in anything that could be construed as espionage? |
